Café owner ruins historic mosque in Tripoli

A cafe owner vandalized part of the “Gomorrah Mosque” in the Ben Ashour area of Tripoli for the purpose of expanding the adjacent cafe.
As some citizens filed a complaint to the Municipality of Tripoli Center the municipal guard checked the scene to stop acts of vandalism.
The Mosque of Gomorrah is a historical site dating back to 1760 during the reign of the Ottoman Empire. It is a protected monument under Law No. 3 of 1995 on the Protection of Antiquities and Historic Cities and is inscribed on the National Heritage List under No. 015/16.
