A number of officers and security chiefs of the Interior Ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA) have paid a working visit to their counterparts in the Ministry of Interior in the Interim Government in Benghazi, in an initiative to unify security efforts in Libya.
Both ministries held an extended meeting at the Tibesti Hotel last Wednesday that included a number of security officials and officers from the eastern, western and southern regions.
The meeting ended with the formation of a joint committee to unify the security efforts in the country. The committee immediately held a series of meetings to implement the recommendations adopted by the two ministries’ meeting.
The joint committee will seek to activate all the items of the recommendations, including the unification of the system of registration of vehicles and the system of criminal evidence and the preparation of training programs for security and police cadres throughout the country, in addition to unification of media statements, organization of workshops and seminars and the formation of a working team to study Police Law No. 5 for 2018.
The recommendations also called for exchange of visits between both sides and the joint preparation of security strategies.
The two ministries activated last Thursday the system of communication between all Libyan security rooms as part of the recommendations.
The initiators of this security unification selected in their meetings the Director of Tripoli Security Directorate, Brig. Gen. Salem Qremida, as head of the joint committee.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior of the Government of National Accord, Fathi Bashagha, held a meeting on Monday morning to discuss the results of Benghazi visit and issued his immediate instructions to the security directors, chiefs of security services, public administrations and security directorates to communicate officially with their counterparts in east Libya to ensure the success of the initiative.
A member of the joint committee, Colonel Abdul Jalil Bati said that the citizens will see the results of this initiative soon.
“The committee will be keen to implement the results of the initiative to achieve security and stability, which has been a dream for the citizens in all these years,” he said.
Bati added that the most important element of the success of the initiative is the spirit of fraternity and patriotism among both ministries.
