A shipment of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Tripoli

An Afriqiyah Airways plane arrived at Mitiga Airport in Tripoli on Thursday loaded with the second shipment of Coronavirus vaccine.
The shipment contained 57,600 doses of the British AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine which was supplied through the “Covax” initiative which is supervised by the World Health Organization.
The Director of the Department of Pharmacy and Medical Equipment at the Ministry of Health, Laila Al-Arabi, confirmed to the Libyan Cloud News Agency that this shipment was contracted by the Libyan state and that its price was paid in advance, adding that other shipments are expected to arrive on a daily basis.
In the same context, the head of the vaccination committee, Suleiman Abu Sriwil, said that the rest of the shipments will arrive successively until they reach 2.8 million doses, indicating that the vaccines will be distributed early next week.
The first shipment arrived in Tripoli on April 4 and it contained more than 100,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik vaccine.
