The Minister of Health, Ali Al-Zanati, and the spokesman for the Government of National Unity, Mohamed Hammouda, held a joint press conference in Tripoli on Wednesday to talk about the latest developments regarding the Coronavirus pandemic.
Al-Zanati clarified that the epidemiological situation in Libya is reassuring, but there are fears that the Indian strain of the Coronavirus, which hit the neighboring Tunisia, would spread into Libya.
Al-Zanati stressed the need to adhere to the health precautions at the Libyan-Tunisian borders, noting that there are more positive cases than before, but they are minor cases that can be treated at home.
On his turn, Hammouda stressed the strength of the Libyan-Tunisian relations and that the closure of the land and air ports comes for the interest of both countries.
Hammouda explained that 800,000 doses have been received so far, and approximately 450,000 citizens have been vaccinated.
“We expect the arrival of 500,000 doses of the new Russian Sputnik vaccine.” He declared.
The spokesman announced that the National Center for Disease Control will carry out a special awareness campaign in relatively hot areas, which will be launched on Thursday, July 14, and it will target the cities of Misrata, Al-Zawiya, Zliten, Al-Khums, and Zuwara.
