UNDP launched a telemedicine initiative in Libya

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Libya has launched a telemedicine initiative in partnership with the private sector and the Ministry of Health.

The Government of Japan provided funding for this initiative by the development of the mobile application “Speetar”.

The Deputy Resident Representative, Gözde AVCI-LEGRAND, explained the telemedicine initiative aims to reduce the burden of travel and transportation for those suffering from chronic diseases and the elderly who need regular health monitoring.

She noted that this technology connects doctors with patients to give them opportunities for consultation and exchange of information about their cases.

The executive director of the initiative said that this service is currently available for covid-19 patients, adding that there are more than 10.000 patients have used the application.
