Protest in Tripoli over power outages

Libyan Cloud News Agency – Tripoli

A number of citizens held a protest in front of the headquarters of the Presidential Council in Tripoli.

The protesters held banners condemning the interruption of power supply that sometimes extends for up to 20 hours a day amid the summer heat and the Coronavirus curfew.

Some protesters said that the interruption of power supply had a negative impact on the health of the people with chronic diseases who use medicines that need to be kept at a certain temperature.

The protesters demanded the dismissal of the Board of Directors of the General Electricity Company and called for an urgent investigation into the statement of the head of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, who accused the General Electricity Company of mismanagement.

They also demanded a new management that has the ability to find urgent solutions to the outage crisis.

The protesters stressed that they will continue their protests until their demands are met and the citizen’s right to a decent and stable life is guaranteed.
