The HNEC proposes to hold the first round of the presidential elections on 24 January, 2022

The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) issued a statement on Wednesday regarding the electoral process.
The HNEC proposed to postpone the first round of the presidential elections to 24 January, 2022, calling on the House of Representatives to take all the necessary measure to continue the electoral process.
Regarding the parliamentary elections, the HNEC said in its statement that the process of reviewing the requests of the 5,385 candidates is near completion and after that it will announce the preliminary lists of candidates, to be followed by the stage of appeals.
The statement stressed that the accusations of negligence and politicization against the HNEC are misleading and they are aimed at undermining the reputation of the HNEC and impeding the electoral process.
