Williams calls for a meeting to agree on a consensual constitutional basis

Libyan Cloud News Agency – Tripoli

The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, sent letters to the presidency of both the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, calling on them to nominate six representatives from each side to form a joint committee dedicated to developing a consensual constitutional basis.

Williams explained on Twitter that the joint committee is supposed to meet on March 15, under the auspices of the United Nations, for two weeks to achieve this goal, adding that it is waiting for a quick response to her letters.

Williams reiterated her call to the Libyan institutions to show goodwill and engage constructively together to move towards the elections for the sake of 2.8 million Libyan voters who have registered for the presidential and parliamentary elections.

She also stressed the importance of maintaining security and stability and avoiding escalation, intimidation, kidnapping, and violence.
