UNSMIL announces start of nominations for the Presidential Council and Prime Minister

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced on Thursday the start of nominations for the three-member Presidential Council and the position of Prime Minister.

The UNSMIL said in a statement that the submission of candidacies for the positions will last for one week, closing on 28 January.

The mission developed technical guidelines and issued relevant forms for submitting nominations in accordance with the nomination criteria adopted by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Tunis in mid-November.

A committee consisting of three members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum will be formed to verify that the nominations are submitted in accordance with the relevant requirements and will compile the final lists of candidates to the Presidential Council of each region and to the position of Prime Minister.

The mission will hold a meeting for the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Switzerland after the nomination period ends, to conduct the voting process from 1 to 5 February 2021.
