Libyan Coast Guard saves 286 irregular migrants off Al- Khoms city

The boat “Qaminis” with the help of the boat “Hossam” of the Central Sector of Libyan Coast Guard have managed to rescue 286 irregular migrants off Al- Khoms shores, the Chief of Al- Khoms Coast Guard, Colonel Mustafa Fareej, has told Libyan Cloud News Agency. Colonel Mustafa Fareej said the irregular migrants included eight children, 43 women and 225 men from Eritrea, Egypt, Bangladesh, Somalia and the Comoros. Fareej added that the Coast Guard conducted the rescue operation after receiving a distress call on Saturday, 60 miles northeast of Al- Khoms . “Immediately the boat Qaminis sailed to the scene at 6:00 p.m. and found the migrants on a dilapidated wooden boat filled with seawater, which led the coast guards to seek help from the boat Hossam to rescue the migrants.” Fareej explained. The Coast Guard disembarked the rescued migrants at Al- Khoms Port where they received first aid in collaboration with the International Organization for migration (IOM) and Taher Zawi Charitable Foundation before taking them to Souq Khamis Shelter. One of the rescued migrants said they had started their trip from Zliten city.
