Consultative meeting to discuss mechanisms to promote rights of disabled

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Labor and Rehabilitation of the Government of National Accord organized a consultative meeting which brought together representatives of a number of ministries, government institutions and civil society organizations to discuss mechanisms to promote the rights of persons with disabilities in Libya, with the support of the United Nations Development Program UNDP.

The aim of this meeting is to listen to the concerns of people with disabilities and to learn about the challenges they face as well as to discuss ways of activating national laws related to their rights.

The Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation, Mahdi Al-Wadmi, said that persons with disabilities must be effectively integrated into all aspects of life. This meeting is an opportunity to learn about the challenges faced by persons with disabilities in Libya as well as to develop strategies to promote their rights.

The Director of the Office of the United Nations Development Program, Sultan Hajiyev said that people with disabilities face many barriers and discrimination, and suffer as much as the rest of the Libyans during this difficult stage.

“The meeting is only a first step considering that we want to recognize the most important needs and hear directly from those we intend to support,” he said.
