The Presidential Council welcomed the UN Security Council support to hold Libyan elections on time

The Presidential Council welcomed on Friday the resolution of the United Nations Security Council to support the Government of National Unity to lead the country until direct presidential and parliamentary elections are held on December 24.
In a statement, the Presidential Council stressed the need to respect and support the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, including the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.
The statement urged the legislative authorities in the country to support the Government of National Unity to conduct the general elections on time, calling on them to approve the budget and work to reach an agreement on the sovereign positions as indicated in the roadmap of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.
The Presidential Council called on the Government of National Unity to work to improve the economy, alleviate the suffering of the citizen, and to take all means for holding the elections on time.
On Friday, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a new resolution on Libya consisting of 22 paragraphs in which it called on the Libyan authorities to take the measures stipulated in the roadmap to hold the presidential and parliamentary elections at the end of the year.
