UNDP launches 2019 Human Development Report

The United Nations Development Programme – UNDP – launched on Monday, December 09, the new 2019 Human Development Report in Tripoli, Benghazi and Sabha.

The launch ceremony was organized by the Ministry of Economy and Industry.

The report highlights the expanding nature of global inequality, pointing to a new generation of inequalities which may trigger a new great divergence in society of the kind not seen since the Industrial Revolution nearly two centuries ago.

Minister of Economy Al-al-Esawi said in the ceremony human development in Libya is one of the important topics for distinguishing Libya as the working age has not reached (70%), and thus the human resource is one of the most important resources in the country, which is characterized by what is called the demographic window.

The Minister added that, according to the Gender Development Index, Libya appears at the highest levels in terms of empowering women at the regional level, and it is also placed in the category of countries that have (average rates of equality) in the human development index at the global level.

UNDP Libya Resident Representative, Mr. Gerardo Noto said in a press conference following the launch that inequality in Libya had exacerbated by the effects of armed conflicts and divisions, which has a great impact on women, youth, IDPs, migrants and minorities.
