UNSMIL calls for an investigation into the clashes in Tripoli

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed grave concern over reports of civilian casualties as a result of clashes between two armed groups in Tripoli Thursday night.

UNSMIL called for an investigation into the incidents and justice for the victims and their families, confirming that any action that endangers the lives of civilians is unacceptable.

It also called on all Libyans to do everything possible to preserve the country’s fragile stability at this sensitive time.

It urged all actors to exercise maximum restraint, address their disputes through dialogue and abide by their obligations under national and international law to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
