The joint committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS) began its meetings in Cairo on Wednesday under the auspices of the United Nations.
Members of the committee will discuss ways of defining a constitutional basis for holding free, credible, transparent and inclusive elections.
In her opening speech, the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, said that the Libyan people believe that the final solution to the crisis in Libya comes through holding elections on a solid constitutional basis.
“Your role is crucial in making your voice heard in support of the 2.8 million of your citizens in Libya who have registered to vote.” Williams added.
On March 3, 2022, Williams announced an initiative to form a joint committee of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to agree on a strong constitutional basis for holding national elections as soon as possible.
