The spokesperson of the Presidential Council, Najwa Wahiba, held a press conference in Tripoli on Monday.
Wahiba briefed about the files that the Presidential Council has worked on during the past period, the most prominent of which were the steps taken with the government and the Ministry of Health regarding the health measures to confront the Indian strain of the Coronavirus.
Wahiba stressed that the head of the Presidential Council instructed the Health Minister to put in place health measures at land, air and sea border crossings, and to expedite the facilitation of the return of Libyans stranded abroad, while adhering to the necessary health measures upon their return home. .
She affirmed the Presidential Council’s commitment to the roadmap and the elections, calling on the High Council of State and the House of Representatives to agree on a constitutional basis for the elections in December 2021.
The spokesperson added that the consultations to appoint a defense minister are still continuing until an agreement is reached on a figure to occupy the position, stressing that the Presidential Council insists on appointing a minister as soon as possible because it is part of efforts to unify the army.
Wahiba clarified that the Presidential Council had cancelled a decision by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to appoint a number of advisers in the Libyan embassies abroad in order to preserve national unity and work standards.
