Meeting to discuss marriage of Libyans with foreigners

The Ministry of Social Affairs held a meeting in Tripoli on Tuesday, January 07, to discuss the marriage of Libyans with foreigners.
The Minister of Social Affairs, representatives of the ministries of interior, foreign affairs and justice, the Libyan Intelligence Agency, the Civil Status Authority, the Passports and Nationality Authority, the Awqaf Authority, and the Islamic Call Society attended the meeting.
The participants discussed the challenges and difficulties of marrying a foreigner.
The Minister of Social Affairs, Fadi al-Shafi, told the Libyan Cloud News Agency that the meeting aims to put a clear mechanism for the issue of Libyans marrying foreigners to preserve the Libyan identity and national security.
She said that there is a committee that will visit Egypt to resolve cases of customary marriages by Libyans.
She added that the customary marriage is illegal in Libya and it’s completely rejected by the society.
