A press briefing about the electoral process

The Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, said in a press conference on Monday that the Ministry of Interior had prepared a plan to secure 2000 polling stations with 35,000 security personnel.

Al-Lafi, who is also the Chairman of the Government Committee to Support Elections, added that a media center will be opened by the committee to support the electoral process and monitor breaches, errors and impartiality in the media.

In the same context, the Minister of Education, Musa Al-Maqrif, said that the ministry is in the process of preparing 2000 schools as polling stations. He also stated that the Ministry of Education is currently preparing to sign a memorandum of understanding with the High National Election Commission to coordinate efforts for the success of the upcoming elections.

With regard to voter registration data and statistics, a member of the High National Election Commission, Abdul Hakim Al-Shaab, indicated that the number of new registered voters has reached 365,997, and the number of registered voters in IDPs centers reached 20,805.  

According to Al-Shaab, Libyan women married to foreigners can now register their names, in cooperation with the Civil Status Department, adding that 1742 women have already registered as voters.
