UN High Commissioner for Refugees called for the closure of migrant detention centers in Libya
Libyan Cloud News Agency – Rome
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, has called for the closure of Libya’s migrant detention centers where violence and systematic violations of human rights are reported.
“According to our data, there are still about 4000 detainees in official centers, it is estimated that at least a quarter of them are migrants and refugees.” Grandi said during a press conference during his visit to Italy.
Grandi warned that it is important, especially through the presence of UN agencies and NGOs, to continue working to stabilize the conditions of people who leave detention centers, so that they do not fall victim to traffickers and criminals again.
