The Libyan Media Corporation banned using “Libya” in private media’s official name

The head of the Libyan Media Corporation (LMC), Mohamed Baiyou, issued on Thursday, February 25, resolution No. 50 of 2021 regarding the prohibition of using “Libya” in private media’s names.
The decision stipulated in its first article that it is prohibited to use “Libya” or “Libyan” in the official name of all private media institutions and companies that are not owned by the state except after obtaining written permission from the head of the LMC.
The second article stipulated that TV and radio stations containing the name “Libya” or “Libyan” must be re-named within a period not exceeding three months from the date of issue of the decision.
The resolution ordered in its third article TV and radio stations that broadcast from Libya to submit their legal documents and obtain a work permit from the LMC in accordance with the regulations and specified fees.
