Women’s Support Unit holds preparatory meeting with members of municipal councils

The Women’s Support Unit at the Higher Electoral Commission held a preparatory meeting on Sunday in Tripoli. The goal of the meeting was to reach out to municipal council members nationwide, in order to open up channels of communication between the Women’s Support Unit and council members, and to activate the mandated programs and to implement its programs to raise awareness of women in all areas.

“We came from the south and challenged all odds as women elected to participate in setting up a mechanism to enable elected and non-elected women working in decision-making positions,” said Mabrouka el-Qamati, a member of the municipal council. “The meeting is full of discussion and participation. Women need to empower them, increase their capabilities and highlight their role in decision-making positions.”
