House of Representatives moves to Benghazi and holds its first session there

The Libyan House of Representatives HOR held its first session at its constitutional headquarters in Benghazi after more than five years of meetings at the former headquarters in Tobruk – a former five star hotel. HOR fled Tripoli in September 2014 after having lost its power in the capital. In summer 2014, armed forces gained power in the capital and set up their own parliament in the form of the former General National Congress.The forces also took over the former International Airport in the south west of Tripoli and the state TV and Radio Channel Al-Wataniya.
