UNSMIL welcomed the release of prisoners in Al-Zawiya

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the efforts made by the Government of National Unity (GNU) on national reconciliation, which started with the release of 107 of the detainees held in the city of Al-Zawiya.

UNSMIL commended in a statement the participation of members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, Al-Zawiya Security Directorate, tribal sheikhs and the people of Al-Zawiya in this initiative, and affirmed its commitment to continue supporting these efforts at the request of GNU.

UNSMIL expressed hope that this initiative will mark the beginning of a comprehensive national reconciliation and restoration of the Libyan social fabric, calling for the release of all detainees before the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan.
