The Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and head of UNSMIL, Stephanie Williams, briefed on Wednesday, September 2, the UN Security Council on the situation in Libya.
Williams warned that Libya is going through a critical juncture, asking for UN support, not only in words but most importantly in action, to help determine whether the country descends into new depths of fragmentation and chaos, or progresses towards a more prosperous future.
Williams said that what exacerbates the miserable conditions of the Libyan people is the debilitating effect of the Coronavirus epidemic, which appears to be out of control, adding that the number of confirmed cases has more than doubled in the past two weeks.
