The Arab Organization for Human Rights in Libya (AOHR) expressed its regret over the detention of photojournalist Saddam Hussein Al-Saket while covering events near the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Tripoli on 23 October.
The AOHR stated in a statement that this “unfortunate incident” coincided with the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, which falls on November 2 of each year.
The AOHR called for the release of Al-Saket, and to guarantee his freedom and safety, urging the Libyan authorities to find practical and effective mechanisms that would decisively end cases of impunity for crimes committed against journalists in Libya.
The organization appealed to the legislative authority to adopt the recommendations of the United Nations action plan on the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity.
