A US legal team demands one million dollars to defend Libyan citizen, Abu Agila Masoud in the US
Libyan Cloud News Agency – Tripoli
A US legal team has requested one million dollars as fees to defend Libyan citizen, Abu Agila Masoud before US courts.
Abdel Monem Al-Marimi, the accused’s nephew, confirmed that the Government of National Unity has not provided any support or assistance until the moment, saying that the defense fees are beyond the family’s capacity.
It is noteworthy that the head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, acknowledged his government’s responsibility to extradite Abu Agila Masoud to the US, justifying the extradition decision that Masoud’s name was mentioned in the investigations in the Lockerbie case and that an arrest warrant was issued against him by Interpol.
The extradition of Masoud sparked widespread protests in Libya, most of which consider that the Lockerbie case was closed about 20 years ago, while a document issued by the Libyan Parliament in the east of the country demanded a criminal case against those involved in “kidnapping” Masoud.
The document indicated that the Libyan parliament is the only legislative authority regulating parliamentary and legislative work since 2014, and it is wary of a new round of pressure with a push to revive the Lockerbie case.
