The Food and Drug Control Center denies using potassium bromate in baking the bread

The Food and Drug Control Center held a press conference in Tripoli on Friday about reports of using potassium bromate as flour improver in Libya.

The director of the center’s media office, Mohamed Al-Zayat, denied using potassium bromate in baking the bread, confirming that 454 samples were collected from 50 cities earlier this year and the results showed no signs of potassium bromate being used.

The Minister of Economy and Trade issued a resolution in 2021 banning the import of potassium bromate.

The resolution requested the bakers and owners of sweet and pastry factories to stop using potassium bromate in the manufacture of baked goods and pastries.
