Mitiga Airport resumes flights after three months of closure

Mitiga Airport in Tripoli resumed flights on Thursday, December 12, after three months of closure due to repeated clashes, which caused damage to some airplanes and airport facilities. 

A Libyan Airlines A320 departed the airport bound for Tunisia to mark the resumption of flights.

The resumption ceremony was attended by Minister of Transport Milad Matouq, Airport Director Lutfi al-Tabib and other aviation officials.

Minister Milad Matouq said there are some unfinished works at the airport but they would not be an obstacle for the resumption of flights. He confirmed that all maintenance works will be finished by the end of this month.

In the same context, Airport Director Lutfi al-Tabib declared to Libyan Cloud News Agency that the resumption of flights will be gradual. He said Libyan Airlines and Afriqiya Airways have already started their schedule from the airport while Buraq Air and Libyan Wings are expected to resume their schedule next Sunday.
