The Scientific Advisory Committee to Combat the Coronavirus Pandemic held a press conference in Tripoli on Sunday.

The acting head of the committee, Suleiman Abu Sriwil, said that Libya had concluded three agreements with the COVAX Facility to buy 2.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, sufficient to vaccinate about 4.4 million people.

Abu Sriwil added that 55.000 doses were provided by the American multinational pharmaceutical corporation Pfizer and 921.000 doses from AstraZeneca, a British–Swedish multinational pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company.

He noted that an amount of 9.6 million dollars was paid as a first payment, indicating that they have agreed with COVAX to import the doses at the end of the first quarter of this year.
